NOVEMBER 2009

It seems every time I write a report it is about how dry it is, how growers want more for their wool and the continued strength of sheep prices.  Unfortunately this quarter is no different.

In regard to how dry it is most local members have been lucky enough to start summer with a green tinge to their paddocks, unfortunately the heat and winds of the last two weeks have left everyone with no green and the worry of fire has eclipsed the worry of feed as most stock are in fairly good condition.

There is no need for local members to worry about feed as stock prices are still very strong, surplus sheep continue to make good returns with it now as profitable to cut their heads off as it is to carry them through.  This especially for wethers as most members are continuing to hold their breeding stock even as percentages of crossbreds mated increase.

Wool prices for our end of the market continue to stagnate, of course there have been small rises but most growers are looking for at least a doubling of price to ease their minds.

Ram sales off the back of the wool prices have been tough for local members as they eye the averages and numbers of medium wools being shifted.  This trend should continue as long as wool prices between supers and mediums are comparable, mediums have the jump on us cutting more wool and bigger frames.
