No one is complaining in the Hamilton region with the weather and commodity prices quite favorable.

The southern part of the region is in recovery mode from excessively wet conditions, boggy areas still needing to be avoided, however the season is looking good.  In comparison the northern most growers are looking for rain to keep the season booming along.

The southerners battled extreme conditions for lambing with very average lambing percentages, compared to exceptional percentages being recorded in the north, particularly those lambing in the spring.

Many growers have completed shearing and are reporting improved fleece weight of stronger micron with very good tensile strength and yield.

Spring ram sales have surpassed last years with increased numbers sold at higher average prices. Improved wool prices have given producers some confidence in their future, however the swing to prime lambs has not completely abated.
